National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

The National Institute of Open Schooling was established in 1989 by Ministry of Human Resource Development to cater to the educational needs of the children out of school, school drop-outs and socially and economical backward section of the learner population. It strives to reach all by breaking all the physical, mental, economical or geographical or any other obstacles. The institute uses new technologies for training and teaching purposes mainly to increase access and ensure quality. The training programmes are imparted at three levels as given below.

• OBE level A: equivalent to class I-III
• OBE level B: equivalent to class IV-V
• OBE level C: equivalent to class VI-VIII
