Institute Of Physics (IOP)
About Institute Of Physics (IOP)
The institute of Physics (IOP) was established 1972 for conducting the atomic and nuclear research with the joint funds from the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the Government of Orissa.
In 1985, the institute was taken up by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and it works in close cooperation with universities / institutions of the country conducting the research tasks in theoretical and experimental areas of High Energy, Nuclear, Atomic, Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics, and accelerator based basic and applied sciences.
The Ion Beam Laboratory (IBL) of the Institute is an excellent laboratory for surface sciences research and is the nerve center of the Institute. All the experimental activities begin from 3MV Pelletron Accelerator located in the Ion Beam Laboratory of the institute. The main building of the institute has a lecture theatre and a seminar room along with housing faculties, research scholars, and administrative staffs. Other buildings in the campus are the ion beam laboratory, workshop, hot laboratory, cluster and nanostructure laboratory, auditorium, library and computer centre. The Hostel Facilities are also available to all pre doctoral, doctoral and post doctoral scholars.
Pre Doctoral Programme
The Pre Doctoral (Post M.Sc.) programme is a pre qualification for doing Ph.D. from Institute Of Physics. The duration of the programme is 1 year and the scholars will study all branches of physics ranging from mechanics to modern physics. M.Phil. Degree in Physics is awarded after successful completion of this programme. The selection is made on the basis of Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) and an interview. The selected candidates will also get monthly fellowships during the Pre-doctoral training period.
Post Doctoral Programme
The Institute of Physics offers Doctoral Programmes for those who successfully complete M.Phil. programme. There are also fellowship facilities for doctoral students.
